Pericardial mesothelioma is one of the rare forms of the mesothelioma among different types of mesothelioma. From a study it has been found that only 1 to 6 patient out of 100 mesothelioma patients have pericardial mesothelioma.

In Pericardial mesothelioma the disease attack lining of the heart & this lining is known as pericardium so from pericardium lining it drives the name pericardial mesothelioma.

As other mesothelioma is the results of the asbestos, not all but most of the pericardial mesothelioma is thought to occur due to asbestos exposure.

In the pericardial mesothelioma many of the patients have been exposed to asbestos as part of their occupations or may have exposure in their homes. But this disease is very rare so physicians are in very difficult situation to find the actual reasons for this disease.

Most of the physicians thought that pericardial mesothelioma is usually develop when asbestos fibers make their way into the bloodstream and make their way to the heart, where they lodge in the pericardium. Malignant tumors then develop, sometimes over the course of many years.
