Asbestos, in its natural state is usually a white, brown, or blue fibrous mineral that has many practical applications, but on the other side it is also a potent and deadly carcinogen. There are six different varieties of asbestos, but the three most common are:
There are different kinds of asbestos available. The most common forms of the asbestos are:
 "White" asbestos or Chrysotile: - These asbestos is obtained from serpentine rocks. Chrysotile type is the often used in industry. This type of asbestos is more flexible than the other types of asbestos and can also be spun & woven into the fabric.  White asbestos are also used in the manufacturing of theatre curtains and also in the manufacturing of firefighters' suits.
 "Brown" asbestos or Amosite:- Brown asbestos is a trade name for the amphiboles belonging to the Cummingtonite - Grunerite solid solution series, and commonly found & used in Africa. Now days brown asbestos are used in other countries also.
 "Blue" asbestos or Riebeckite :- Blue asbestos is also known under the name of Crocidolite. Blue asbestos is  the most dangerous type of asbestos among the asbestos defined till date.
